Ticket to Paradise
This piece was designed as an entry in the Independent Pattern Company Alliance 2013 contest. The theme for the competition that year was “Ticket to Paradise.” The concept is homage to Mt Rainier and Paradise Resort. Finalist’s garments were on display at the Sewing and Stitchery Expo in Puyallup Washington where attendees voted for their favorites.
Contest rules state to use a pattern from one of the IPCA designers. I chose #1035 Contempory Classic, a cardigan style blazer from Dana Marie Designs.
It is made of DWR Ultrex with waterproof breathable membrane and interlined with PrimaLoft. The lining fabric graphic was designed by London Dewey and printed by Spoonflower. People from the northwest will recognize our iconic mountain.
I generated a QR code and embroidered it on my Bernina sewing machine as part of the jacket embellishment. When the lift ticket or the embroidery are scanned with a smart phone viewers are led to this website and a video featuring the Eddie Money song “Two Tickets to Paradise”
Threads magazine included a small write up about this garment in their summer 2013 issue and the online blog. http://www.threadsmagazine.com/item/30348/interactive-media-meets-embroidery
